The X-Men comics story began with the paraplegic telepath Professor Charles Francis Xavier a.k.a. Professor X. Xavier gathered the X-Men under the cover of Professor Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. In 1991, Marvel Comics revised the X-Men, the original comic book series of this title having been already renamed to Uncanny X-Men. Another Marvel Comics series was X-Force featuringthe characters from the The New Mutants led by Cable and to the introduction of several spin-off series from Marvel Comics The New Mutants, X-Factor, Excalibur, Astonishing X-Men.and Wolverine. Some former villains becoming X-Men such as Juggernaut, Mystique, Sabretooth and Warpath. Marvel Comics launched series for Cable, Gambit and Dead Pool, from X-Force Comics. Other stories and titles from Marvel Comics such as Generation X, Mutant X, X-Man, Classic X-Men, The New Mutants, Storm, X-Men Unlimited, Magneto, Rogue, Onslaught, Age of Apocalypse, X-Tinction Agenda, Amazing X-Men, and X-Men Adventures. Spider-Man, Peter Benjamin Parker is a Marvel Comics superhero created by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko. First appearing in Amazing Fantasy #15 1962, he has become one of the world's most popular superheroes. In 1990, the series Spider-Man began. Spider-Man appears in New Avengers, Peter Parker Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man, Venom, Webspinners Tales of Spider-Man, Spider-Man Universe, and Ultimate Spider-Man. Popular Spider-Man series include, The Amazing Spider-Man, Sensational Spider-Man, Spider-Man Chapter One, Spider-Man Maximum Clonage, Spider-Man The Mutant Agenda, Spider-Man Lost Years, Spider-Man Unlimited. In 1972, Marvel Comics ran a series starring Spider-Man, Marvel Heroes & Marvel Team-Up, in which Spider-Man is paired with other superheroes. His second solo series, Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man, running parallel to the main series; a third solo series, Web of Spider-Man #1 thru #129, launched in 1985, was replacing Marvel Team-Up. Marvel Comics best-known comics titles include Fantastic Four, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Daredevil , Thor, Captain America, and X-Men. The Ultimate titles for the X-Men, the Avengers, Spider-Man, and the Fantastic Four, Daredevil and Elektra have been the basis for several video games. Elektra was created by Frank Miller and first appeared in Daredevil #168 in 1981. Elektra is a ninja and assassin who wields two bladed sai as her trademark weapon. She is a love interest of the superhero Daredevil and she has also appeared as a supporting character of the X-Men's Wolverine. Both Daredevil and Elektra have other crossovers such as Elektra Witchblade and Daredevil Shi. The limited series Root of Evil #1 thru #4, Elektra #1 thru #19 began in 1996, and Volume 2 #1 are only a few of Elektra's popular titles. In 1998, Daredevil Volume 2 #1 was issued as part of the Marvel Knights. While Daredevil is blind, his remaining senses are superhumanly acute. The Ghost Rider series in 1990 thru 1998 featured Daniel Ketch as a new Ghost Rider. Daniel Ketch and his sister Barbara were attacked by gangsters, and after having fled to a junkyard it is there where Daniel found a motorcycle bearing a mystical sigil. Upon touching the sigil, he was transformed into the Ghost Rider. It was later revealed that Daniel Ketch and John Blaze were long-lost brothers and that their family were the inheritors of a mystical curse related to the Spirits of Vengeance. The motorcycle which had somehow been mystically enchanted to contain the essence of a "Spirit of Vengeance." This spirit had originally been a Puritan man named Noble Kale, an ancestor of both Blaze and Ketch. Johnny Blaze reappeared in this series as a supporting character and was revealed to be Ketch's brother. The first supernatural Ghost Rider is stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, who, in order to save the life of his mentor, agreed to give his soul to a demon named Mephisto. Blaze's head becomes a flaming skull and he rides a fiery motorcycle and has blasts of hellfire from his skeletal hands. He starred in the series from 1973 to1983. Other popular related titles are Ghost Rider Vol 1 #1 thru #81, Ghost Rider Vol 2 #1 thru #93, Ghost Rider / Blaze Spirits of Vengeance, Original Ghost Rider #1, Ghost Rider Wolverine Punisher Hearts of Darkness, Ghost Rider / Captain America Fear. Although sometimes considered a hero, the Punisher is a gritty and ruthless vigilante who uses killing, kidnapping, extortion, coercion, threats of violence and torture as acceptable crime-fighting tactics. The Punisher appeared to willingly join and work for organized crime. The Punisher's brutal nature and willingness to kill made him a novel character in mainstream American comic books. The Punisher was created by Gerry Conway and Ross Andru, who was then the regular writer and artist, respectively, for The Amazing Spider-Man, with then-Marvel art director John Romita, Sr. working on the formal design. The Punisher was initially an antagonist of Spider-Man, although only due to being duped by the supervillain known as the Jackal. The Punisher immediately became popular with titles including Punisher War Journal #1 thru #80, Punisher War Zone #1 thru #41 and Punisher Vol 2 1987 series #1 thru #104, Punisher 2099, Punisher Vol 3 2000 series #1 thru #12, The Punisher Back to School Special, Die Hard in the Big Easy and Double Edge Alpha. He was part of a wave of psychologically troubled anti-heroes and was featured and made appearances in the various Spider-Man titles and other series such the X-Men and Nick Fury. |
